Overview
High-dose intramuscular vitamin D3 for rapid repletion of severe deficiency. Single injection can provide 100,000-300,000 IU. Used when oral supplementation is insufficient or compliance is poor.
Mechanism of Action
Cholecalciferol (vitamin D3) — converted in the liver to 25(OH)D (calcidiol), then in the kidneys to active 1,25(OH)2D (calcitriol). IM depot provides sustained release over weeks.
