Overview

Angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB). FDA-approved for hypertension and cardiovascular risk reduction. Preferred by the TRT/AAS community over other antihypertensives for two reasons: (1) Excellent blood pressure control with a long half-life (24h) enabling once-daily dosing. (2) Partial PPAR-delta agonism — a unique property among ARBs that may provide additional metabolic benefits (improved insulin sensitivity, increased mitochondrial fatty acid oxidation) of interest to the community. Commonly used at 20–40mg daily during AAS cycles to manage cycle-induced hypertension. Harm reduction: Monitor blood pressure and potassium (mild hyperkalemia risk). Do not combine with ACE inhibitors or potassium-sparing diuretics without caution.

Mechanism of Action

Angiotensin II type 1 (AT1) receptor antagonist. Blocks the vasoconstrictive and aldosterone-stimulating effects of angiotensin II. Partial agonist at PPAR-delta nuclear receptor — metabolic co-benefit distinct from other ARBs. Longest half-life ARB (~24h) in the class.
