Overview

RAD-140 (Testolone) is a selective androgen receptor modulator originally developed by Radius Health as a potential alternative to testosterone replacement in muscle wasting conditions. It binds preferentially to androgen receptors in muscle and bone while largely sparing the prostate and skin, at least on paper. Oral, with reported half-life in the range of 20–60 hours depending on source — published human pharmacokinetic data is limited, so once-daily dosing is standard but the figure should be treated as approximate. It's the most androgenic SARM that saw meaningful human trials, and community consensus treats it accordingly — closer in feel to a mild anabolic steroid than to milder SARMs like Ostarine. Development was halted in 2019 due to safety signals, and it remains a research chemical with no approved medical use. It's widely sold as a 'research compound' and is banned by WADA and all major sporting bodies.

Mechanism of Action

Selectively activates androgen receptors in muscle and bone while acting as an antagonist in prostate and seminal vesicles. Neuroprotective activity observed in preclinical models (AR-dependent protection against kainate toxicity).

Dosing Information

Route Dose Range Half-life Tmax Frequency
Oral 5–20 mg 2.5 days 2 hr Daily

Common Side Effects

  • · Testosterone suppression (often significant)
  • · Elevated liver enzymes (ALT/AST)
  • · Lowered HDL cholesterol
  • · Aggression / mood changes
  • · Headaches
  • · Acne
  • · Hair shedding (in those predisposed)
  • · Nausea at higher doses

Monitoring Recommendations

Full hormone panel (Total T, Free T, LH, FSH, Estradiol) at baseline, mid-cycle, and 4 weeks post-cycle. Liver panel (ALT, AST, GGT, bilirubin) at baseline, every 3-4 weeks on cycle, and post-PCT. Lipid panel at baseline and end of cycle — expect HDL to drop. CBC if running longer than 8 weeks.

Storage & Handling

Room Temperature

Store at room temperature, away from direct light and humidity.

General

Liquid solutions (suspended in PEG400 or ethanol) are stable at room temperature. Cap tightly — evaporation will concentrate the solution and throw off dosing.

Community Notes

Often used as a 'first SARM' by people who've decided against a full testosterone cycle, or stacked with TRT during a blast. Anecdotal reports on r/steroids commonly describe RAD-140 as among the more suppressive SARMs at community doses, with HPTA shutdown reported at 10mg/day or higher over 8 weeks. No head-to-head human suppression data exists, and LGD-4033 at equivalent doses is reported similarly. Most people run 10-20mg/day for 6-8 weeks, followed by a full SERM-based PCT (nolvadex or clomid) unless on TRT. Reports of elevated liver enzymes and aggressive mood shifts are common enough to take seriously. The 2020 case reports of drug-induced liver injury are worth reading before starting.
