Overview
Long-acting basal insulin analogue. Duration ~12-24 hours depending on dose — often requires twice-daily dosing at lower doses. Being supplanted by glargine and degludec but still in wide use.
Mechanism of Action
Recombinant insulin analogue with B30 threonine deleted and C14 fatty acid (myristic acid) acylated to B29 lysine. Binds albumin in the subcutaneous depot and plasma, providing prolonged action.
