Overview
A naturally occurring glycoprotein that binds and neutralizes myostatin and activins. Myostatin is a negative regulator of muscle growth — by inhibiting it, follistatin promotes muscle hypertrophy. The 344-amino acid isoform (FS-344) is the most common research variant. Used in the bodybuilding/performance community. Very limited human data for exogenous administration. Requires reconstitution with BAC water.
Mechanism of Action
Binds and neutralizes myostatin (GDF-8) and activins, removing the natural brake on muscle growth. Also modulates FSH release and has roles in inflammation and fibrosis.
