Overview
First-generation non-steroidal anti-androgen. Used for prostate cancer; rarely used for HRT due to significant hepatotoxicity risk. WARNING: Fatal hepatic necrosis has been reported. Requires regular liver function monitoring. Largely superseded by bicalutamide which has a more favorable safety profile.
Mechanism of Action
Non-steroidal androgen receptor antagonist. Active metabolite 2-hydroxyflutamide provides most of the anti-androgenic effect.
