Overview
Transdermal estradiol gel applied daily to skin. Bypasses first-pass liver metabolism. Application site affects absorption — inner thigh and inner upper arm are typical. Scrotal/genital application (off-label, community practice) increases absorption 5-8x. Gel can transfer to others through skin contact.
Mechanism of Action
Delivers unmodified 17β-estradiol through the skin. Absorbed transdermally into systemic circulation, bypassing hepatic first-pass metabolism.
