Overview
Synthetic retroprogesterone (stereoisomer of progesterone). Widely used in Europe and Asia for HRT and menstrual disorders. Not available in the US. Has selective progesterone receptor agonist activity without androgenic, estrogenic, or glucocorticoid effects -- a cleaner side effect profile than many synthetic progestogens.
Mechanism of Action
Selective progesterone receptor agonist. Retroprogesterone structure provides high oral bioavailability without the extensive first-pass metabolism seen with natural progesterone. Active metabolite 20-alpha-dihydrodydrogesterone also has progestogenic activity.
