Overview
Dual type I and type II 5-alpha-reductase inhibitor. More potent than finasteride (>90% DHT suppression vs ~70%). Has an extraordinarily long half-life of approximately 5 weeks (840 hours), meaning steady state takes ~6 months to achieve and effects persist for months after discontinuation. Used for BPH and off-label for hair loss and transfem HRT. Category X -- teratogenic.
Mechanism of Action
Dual inhibitor of both type I and type II 5-alpha-reductase isoenzymes. Reduces serum DHT by >90% at 0.5 mg/day.
