Overview
A naturally occurring nonapeptide first isolated from rabbit brain in 1977. Promotes delta wave (deep) sleep without sedation. Used in the peptide community for sleep optimization. Can be administered subcutaneously or intranasally. Short half-life but effects on sleep architecture persist for hours. Requires reconstitution with BAC water for injectable use.
Mechanism of Action
Modulates sleep-wake cycles by promoting delta wave EEG activity. Also has stress-protective, antioxidant, and analgesic properties. Does not cause sedation — enhances natural sleep onset.
